Dedication. One Who Will Never Quite

Last month in a training meeting we attended, this quote from a modern day prophet was read. What amazing dedication he has for proclaiming the wonderful news of The Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is such an example to me. Our message, Jesus Christ’s message, is so great and wonderful. It blesses the lives of all those you partake in it. . The Gospel has been restored! There are Prophets again on the earth! The heavens are open! Families can be eternal! Lives are being Blessed! What a wonderful message to share! Let us all do our part to share our testimonies we have of Jesus Christ. I want to see the same vision that this man saw. How about you?

“If you could only see the vision I have. I wish I had your bodies to do this work. I would run from house to house telling everyone of the gospel, and after I lost strength to run I would begin to walk, and after I collapsed from walking, I would begin to crawl, and after my knees were so bloody that I could not use them I would use my arms to drag myself, and once my muscle in my body was gone I would begin to yell…oh, only if you could see the vision as I have.” -Spencer W. Kimball

Why am I knocking on your door???

Have you ever been rudely interrupted by a knock on your door or a ringing of your doorbell only to find two young men in suits standing on your front door step? Or maybe two young women? They were probably dressed very nicely; suits or just white shirts and ties? I’m sure they introduced themselves as representatives, or missionaries, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I know because I am one of these young men. I have knocked on many doors and talked with many people on their door steps.

Have you ever wondered why they were standing there talking to you in the rain, snow, or sunshine? So why do we take the time to go from door to door to talk to people like you? Why do we face rejection? Why do we interrupt your meal, nap, or any other activity? Why do we sometimes chase you down on the street  to try to talk and get to know you?

The answer is simple. We know how much the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ has blessed our lives and we want you to have the same blessings. Christ commanded his apostles shortly before his ascension back into heaven to “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you” (Mathew 28:18-19). After his resurrection he asked Peter three times if Peter loved him. Peter’s response was obviously yes. Christ’s response was to “Feed my sheep” (John 21:15-17). There are countless scriptures that teach, command, and exhort those who have faith in Christ to invite others to come unto him. But for me at least, it is a little bit more than just that.

If you went to a restaurant and tried a new dish (Perhaps a Monte burger from Montana Club) and loved it, or Maybe you could even say to yourself that it was the best meal that you have ever had. Would you want to keep it a secret or tell everyone you know? I know I would want to tell people. That is how the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ is for me. It is sooo good! Though it is a commandment to do missionary work, to me it is even more then that. I KNOW that anyone who accepts our message, or in reality Christ’s message, will be happy! Our message is unique; it includes modern day prophets, restoration of priesthood, another testament of Jesus Christ, and answers to life’s greatest questions.Their lives will be blessed in so many ways! I cannot keep it to myself! That is why we knock on your door. That is why we go from door after door after door. That is why we face rejection, harsh words, slammed doors, and disappointment. That is why we may chase you down on the street and seem like we are crazy. That is why we don’t give up if you tell us to come back some other time.  It is simply because we want you to have what we have. We are not out here for ourselves. We want you to find happiness in this life and the kind of happiness that lasts through the eternities. We want to invite you to come unto our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Come Listen to a Prophet’s Voice!!

When teaching a nine-year old girl a couple of weeks ago we were talking about prophets. We talked about Noah, and how he prophesied of the flood and saved his family, and the whole human race in reality. We taught about Moses and his faith and his courage in leading the Children of Israel out of bondage in Egypt. I then asked the question “wouldn’t it be cool if we had a Noah or a Moses on the earth right now? To let us know if a flood was coming? Or to lead us out from bondage?” Her eyes kind of lit up and she said “Wow. Ya!”

Well as a representative of Jesus Christ and His church I am called (and even proud) to declare to everyone that we do have a prophet here on the earth at this time. That we have a modern-day Noah, a modern-day Moses, or Isaiah, or Adam on the earth at this very moment  I know! Think about it, If there was a flood coming would you want to know about it? I know I would!

Two weekends ago, the 1st and 2nd of April, we got to hear from the modern-day prophet. Every six months there is a conference broadcasted around the world, we refer to it as General Conference. There the prophet, President Thomas S. Monson (pictured below), addressed the world along with other chosen servants of the Lord. It is two days packed full of uplifting, ennobling, and helpful counsel. Along with warnings and reminders. I love it. I love to hear those men and women and the love they have for all of us and how they always admonish us to be a little better, try a little harder, and give a little more. I especially love to listen to the prophet. I can simply testify that he truly is the mouthpiece of the Lord. I testify that the Lord lives, and the words that he wants us to know are spoken through the prophet on the earth at this time. Here is video and a link. Check them out for yourself; listen to the prophet, listen to your heart. What a wonderful thing it is to know that Christ’s Church has been restored to the earth and that a prophet is here on the earth to guide and help us!

Why Are There Sooo Many Churches???

So why is it that there are so many different churches?? And why do they all teach different things and interpret the same scripture so differently?? Have you ever noticed all of the different church buildings in your town? In some places it seems that there is a different church on every corner! After Christ had been resurrected, he gave His authority to His apostles to run and authorize the church. But eventually all of them were either rejected, banished, or martyred. False teachings and incorrect doctrine crept into the church. People and churches picked up pieces from the original church but they lacked the whole truth. Eventually a council of men at Nicaea formed to “Organize” the religion again. From then on there have been countless break-offs from the Catholic church. Different denominations, teachings, and doctrines. Eventually the churches started to multiply rapidly when different break-offs from different churches sprung up; thus today we have so many different churches. The bible teaches that there is “One Lord, one faith, one baptism” (Ephesians 4:5), so what’s the deal with all the differences in religion these days?? These are the exact questions that Joseph Smith asked himself in the early 1800’s. There was a great religious excitement at the turn of the century. Many churches, and many people, trying to find their way back to God. Joseph, just a young boy at the time was troubled, he did not know which of all these many churches he should join. One Pastor said one thing while another Pastor said something else. Have you ever felt the same way? Have you ever drove down the road and seen all the different denominations and faiths and ask yourself who is true? Just like Joseph, you too may feel confused, searching for the truth. Not all churches can be true for they all teach and believe different things. When Joseph smith recognized this he read in the book of James: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraided not; and it shall be given him”(James 1:5). Joseph decided to do just that. To do as Jame’s directed, that is, ask of God. So he did. And what resulted changed the world forever.

Joseph Smith received an answer. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him that though there are many good people in these various groups and churches, they all lacked ALL the truth. They lacked the AUTHORITY to run Christ’s church; His ONE church. Joseph Smith was called to be the next prophet, to restore ALL of Christ’s church to the earth once again. He was not just given a few pieces of a puzzle but was given everything! That is how we have the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints today. The ONE church. Though there are many great churches that do great things, they lack ALL of the truth, and the priesthood authority to run Jesus Christ’s church. So ask yourself, why are there so many churches? Why are there so many different answers to the same question? Shouldn’t there be one answer that works for everybody?? I know that there is one answer that works for everyone; and that answer is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And i know that the fulness of that gospel was restored to the earth through Joseph Smith.
